If you upgrade to JMU from Virginia Community College or Richard Bland College without earning an associate degree, your credits will be assessed from course to course, as specified in the Transferology Transfer Credit Equivalency Guide. JMU has secured admission agreements with all Virginia Community Colleges and Richard Bland College. Under the GAA, admission to JMU is guaranteed to a student who completes an appropriate associate degree, has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and meets the additional requirements outlined in the individual agreements. Admission to JMU is guaranteed, although some majors may have additional admission requirements. In addition to the following degrees, JMU has specific program articulation agreements with certain community colleges of commerce, engineering, human services and RN-BSN (BRCC, LFCC, PVCC and SVCC). In order to apply for transfer admission, a student must have completed or be in the process of completing at least 24 credit hours after graduating from high school. If a student has less than 24 credit hours after high school, we recommend that they first contact your regional recruiter for advice on the best time to apply. Priority will be given to associate graduates or those with at least 48 college credits.
JMU offers admission to a very small number of students who have only one year of university courses at their previous institution. The Office of the Registrar conducts a credit assessment after an offer of admission has been submitted. Each course taken at another institution is assessed individually, and only equivalent college courses offered at JMU that score “C” or better are credited. A “C-” is not transmitted. Admission to JMU is guaranteed to a student who completes an appropriate associate degree, has a cumulative GPA of 3.00, and meets the additional admission requirements outlined in the individual agreements. Guaranteed admission is the university; Students may be required to meet or complete additional admission or progression standards for certain majors. JMU takes into account transfer applicants` college courses, cumulative grade point average, high school curriculum, and high school grades. The more credit hours you earn in college, the less emphasis is placed on your high school balance sheet. The purpose of these agreements is to facilitate the transfer process to JMU and promote close alignment of Virginia Community College and JMU`s college courses, programs, and degrees.
There is no limit to the number of hours that can be transferred to JMU. The spring semester is the most competitive and limited to about 250 students. We know that moving from one college to another is a big problem, and our orientation program has special programs for transfer students to ease the transition. Candidates for competitive transfer must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and pass college courses in all core subjects: English, mathematics, social sciences and laboratory sciences. . * Major in General Studies approved. An associate degree with a major in General Studies from this community college is eligible for the Guaranteed Admission Agreement and meets JMU`s general training requirements. . Majors in fine arts and nursing have special admission requirements. In addition, JMU does not accept Associate of Fine Arts or Associate of Applied Sciences degrees to meet general educational requirements. JMU has a guaranteed admission agreement with the BRCC. Students who meet all GAA requirements must sign a letter of intent when applying for admission to JMU. Registration fees are waived for BRCC students who qualify for the GAA.
